Collaboration between Mojave Spaceport and Mojave Unified School District
Mission of Program: To spark the interest of future engineers by have a rocket launching contest for students in grades 4, 5, and 6, from the Mojave Unified School District.
Program: Students in grades 4, 5, and 6 from Mojave Unified School District will participate. Each class will be a team that builds a rocket. Each class will be considered a business and will have the responsibility of naming their rocket, creating a logo and banner, design, writing about, and construct a rocket which will be launched at Mojave Spaceport on May 22, 2012. The May 22th day will be a day of fun activities, with the launching rockets, fly-bys of aircraft, lunch (free
for everyone), and static displays.
The program will be launched with a presentation by Marie Walker and Bob Rice
at each school site, describing the program to the student body then firing off
rockets similar to the rockets the students will be building. Please contact ISC for
the presentation date at your school.
Students from Mojave High School and California City High School will instruct
the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade classes about engineering and rockets.
Businesses from the community can be solicited to sponsor each class and be a
part of the program. You are responsible for soliciting a business for your class.
Please note--this is not a mandatory requirement.
Each team will judged in 5 areas: 1) Banner, 2) Rocket performance at launch,
3) Art Work on Rocket, 4) Essay, 5) Construction of Rocket.
